Do Not Counter Your Parents

September 1, 2010 |15:59 | Parents  By : Team X

Do Not Counter Your Parents: People may believe that they have been sent on this earth by God Himself and we go back when He recalls us. But at the same time we shall have to accept that we have come here on this earth through our parents and up till now, we could not see a person who has come on this earth directly from God. Even the people who have got some place in mythologies and in history and who had been founding religions and had been telling us that they are God had come on this earth through their parents and none has come directly from the side of God. That is the reason in Hindu Shastras, it has been admitted that parents are above all and none on earth can have a place equal to parents.

Why Parents Should Put Children Before Marriage

May 24, 2010 |10:15 | Parents  By : Team X

We live in an age when love, sex and intimacy seem to be many people's epitome of happiness. Yes, we seek other ways to find happiness and fulfillment, but the rate of divorce and the percentage of single parent families compared with two-parent families tells me that parenting is either of less importance to parents than marriage or that they are uninformed about the effects of divorce on their children. Parents who leave an unhappy marriage for the sake of their children are not in possession of all the facts or are misguided in their belief that divorce is in the best interest of the children. The best wisdom out there says that children of divorce suffer more than children of unhappy marriages.

Gender-bender chemicals 'putting everyone at risk

March 26, 2010 |17:12 | Babies Care | Mother Care | Parents  By : Team X

Gender-bender chemicals 'putting everyone at riskMillions of people have been contaminated with potentially dangerous gender-bending chemicals from food packaging, drinks cans and baby bottles, a study shows.

Researchers say the general public is 'ubiquitously' exposed to bisphenol A (BPA) - a man-made chemical linked to breast cancer, fertility problems and birth defects.

The chemical, which mimics the female sex hormone oestrogen, was found at detectable levels in most pregnant women, teenagers and children.

Although the levels are within the official safety guidelines, anti-chemical campaigners say there is worrying evidence that BPA is harmful at low levels.

They accused government agencies around the world of ignoring the mounting evidence against BPA  -  and putting health at risk. BPA is used to make linings of food and drink cans.

Two teenaged girls aged 14 and 16 were arrested in Colombia for allegedly kidnapping and performing a C-section on a pregnant woman to steal her baby, Colombian media reported on Wednesday. Events reportedly happened Monday in the town of Duitama, in the central Colombian region of Boyaca. The two suspects who are cousins deceived their 18-year-old victim by pretending to offer her a job.

According to the daily El Tiempo, the 16-year-old suspect had been pregnant but lost the baby in a fall. With her cousin, she planned to steal someone else's baby so that her boyfriend would not leave her. One of the suspects reportedly made contact with the pregnant woman and asked her to go to a solitary cellar for a job interview. When she got there, the two attackers tied her up and performed a C-section, removing the seven-month-old foetus from her womb.

Excessive Weight Gain During Pregnancy Raises Gestational Diabetes Risk

February 24, 2010 |13:14 | Parents  By : Team X

Excessive Weight Gain During Pregnancy Raises Gestational Diabetes RiskExcessive weight gain during pregnancy, especially the first trimester, may increase a woman's risk of gestational diabetes, say U.S. researchers.

Their three-year study included 345 pregnant women with gestational diabetes and 800 pregnant women without gestational diabetes, which is defined as glucose intolerance that typically occurs during the second or third trimester of pregnancy.

After the researchers adjusted for a number of factors -- age at delivery, previous births, pre-pregnancy body-mass index and race/ethnicity -- they found that women who gained more weight during pregnancy than recommended by the U.S. Institute of Medicine were 50 percent more likely to develop gestational diabetes, compared to those whose weight gain was within or below the IOM recommendations.

Parents defend diversity and oppose dithering

February 10, 2010 |13:47 | Parents  By : Team X

The public hearing Tuesday night was held to discuss year-round versus traditional school calendars, but many who turned out wanted to talk about neighborhood schools and their effect on diversity.

About 100 people turned up at Holly Springs High School for the first of five "community engagement meetings" set up by the school board. The goal is to use information from the meetings - along with the results of a survey on school calendars - to make decisions about the year-round schools for the 2010-2011 school year and in the long term.

The new majority on the school board campaigned against mandatory year-round attendance, but the members decided to get more comment before making a decision to affect the coming school year. A recent Wake County schools system survey showed that about nine out of 10 parents were satisfied with the calendar at their child's school and not looking for change.

Two moms are as good as a mom and a dad - study

January 26, 2010 |11:36 | Parents  By : Team X

Two moms are as good as a mom and a dad studyHaving two parents matters. Their gender doesn’t, according to a new study.A pair of American sociologists spent five years sifting through.

All the available literature contrasting the outcomes for children raised in traditional families with those raised by a same-sex couple.

Their conclusion: no substantive difference at all.“The upshot of the study is something that should be common sense.

But instead there is this enormous belief in the significance of gender. Bottom line:

What matters is good parenting,” said NYU’s Judith Stacey. She and colleague Timothy Biblarz published the results of their investigation in the Journal of Marriage and Family on Friday. Those who disagreed with their answer to that question  “not that much”  began casting around for their own scientific data.

Parents at war with school district

January 20, 2010 |11:55 | Parents  By : Team X

When you look for a place to live, if you have kids part of the process is checking out the schools nearby.  But what do you do if the system changes the schools?  It's happening in West Chatham and a lot of parents are upset.

Right now Bloomingdale Elementary is a fine arts magnet school, but the district wants to turn Bloomingdale back into a typical elementary and move the arts program elsewhere. Tuesday night parents had a chance to tell the school board actually what they thought of the move.

Emotions ran high as parents confronted school board members and school Superintendent Dr. Thomas Lockamy over the decision to move the schools magnet program from Bloomingdale to Garrison Elementary; a school inside Savannah city limits and in an area parents were less than thrilled about. Especially after they read the crime stats.
